REPOST from Ms. Erika Soriano-Mata, creator of HUMABI Bags.

Here it is! Another color that you will love. The elegantly simple BEIGE! Which is perfectly embodied by no less than the "Mom-About-Town" herself, Ms. Wowie Huang-Teves!

HER TAKE ON HUMABI

I had the opportunity to visit and feature the Gawad Kalinga Ray of Hope Village in 2009. This is the first home-type jail and GK village in the history of the Philippine Penology and Management. The detainees of the Davao City Female Jail wittily refer to themselves as “bakasyonistas” (vacationers). They view their confinement in jail as “temporary”--a short respite until they resume their regular lives again in the outside world.

One of the livelihood and skills training that the inmates have learned in the GK Ray of Hope Village is the tie box bag making. Erika has elevated the inmates’ tie box bag by introducing new designs and packaging which created that extra oomph and value to the product. I was pleasantly surprised to receive my HUMABI bags inside their dust bags, with their own personalized zippers and tags. Truly world-class!

Ever since I got my own HUMABI bags, I have used them almost on a daily basis from the office, to meetings and to social events. It is something I am proud to bring and showcase. It is also a unique and much-appreciated gift idea for family and friends.

Just like HUMABI, Erika is a pleasant surprise. She is naturally sophisticated, with beauty radiating inside and out; and yet so down-to-earth. I have always admired Erika for her exquisite fashion sense. But, most importantly, I am extremely blessed to have her as a good friend.

True to the name of the GK village, a ray of hope shines within each inmate and Philippine Science High School scholar who benefit from the proceeds of the HUMABI bags. My hats off to Erika for this admirable social enterprise!
